Leaked Images Show Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Getting a Wider, Shorter Redesign
New renders and specs surfaced days before Samsung's July 22nd launch event, alongside leaks of the Z Flip 8 and a new Z Fold 8 Ultra variant.

Samsung's next foldable is out in the open before Samsung even gets to show it off. Leaker Evan Blass has published images of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 that confirm what earlier leaks suggested: the phone is getting shorter and wider, a meaningful departure from the tall, narrow book-style design Samsung has used for years.
The timing is notable. Samsung is set to formally unveil the device at a launch event on July 22nd, which means these images landed just days before the company's own reveal.
Along with the redesign, the leaked images point to some of the hardware inside. The Z Fold 8 is expected to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite For Galaxy processor, paired with a 50-megapixel wide camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide on the back. Selfie duty falls to matching 10-megapixel cameras on both the inner and outer screens. Samsung's own marketing, per the leaked material, touts up to 26 hours of video playback on a single charge.
Two more foldables in the mix
Blass didn't stop at the Fold 8. He also shared images of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung's clamshell foldable, and in a separate email sent to The Verge, provided images of an entirely new model: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both devices line up with brief glimpses Samsung itself showed off earlier this week in a Spider-Man-themed teaser, lending the leak extra credibility.
The Z Flip 8, according to the leaked specs, will pack a 4,300mAh battery, a 10-megapixel camera on its main internal screen, and a cover-screen camera setup of 50 megapixels wide paired with 12 megapixels ultrawide. That's the same camera configuration found on the current Z Flip 7, suggesting Samsung is holding steady on imaging for the Flip line while presumably focusing changes elsewhere.
The Fold 8 Ultra, meanwhile, looks like the flagship of the lineup. Leaked images show it advertising a larger 5,000mAh battery rated for up to 27 hours of video playback, a jump from the standard Fold 8's 26-hour claim. Its rear camera array is considerably more ambitious too: a 200-megapixel wide sensor anchors the setup, backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. Cover and main screen cameras both come in at 10 megapixels.
Why the redesign matters
Samsung's foldables have followed a fairly consistent formula for generations: a tall, narrow cover screen that unfolds into a roughly square main display. The shift to a shorter, wider form factor for the Z Fold 8 is a real departure, and one that's been rumored for a while now. A wider design generally makes the phone easier to use one-handed in its folded state, addressing one of the more persistent complaints about book-style foldables.
The addition of a Fold 8 Ultra variant is also worth watching. Samsung hasn't previously split its Fold line into standard and Ultra tiers the way it does with the Galaxy S series, so a higher-end Fold model with a beefed-up camera system and bigger battery would mark a structural change to the foldable lineup, not just a spec bump.
With Samsung's own event just around the corner, these leaks make it unlikely there will be many surprises left when the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 officially debut on July 22nd. What remains to be seen is pricing, availability, and whatever details Blass's leak didn't cover.
