Technology Brief is a technology news site. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to get rid of it. It is written in plain English on purpose.

What we collect

If you only read the site, we collect almost nothing. No account, no sign-up, no tracking pixel following you around the web. Our host records standard traffic data — pages viewed, rough load times, general location at country level — so we can tell whether the site is fast and working. That data is aggregated and is not tied to you.

If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. The password is stored hashed, which means we cannot read it and neither can anyone who obtains the database. We also store whether you asked for the daily newsletter.

If you give us your email any other way — the newsletter box, the “request a guide” form, or by replying to a direct message on Instagram — we store that email address and which of those places it came from.

We do not collect your name, your address, your phone number, or any payment details. The site takes no payments.

Why we collect it

Your email address lets you sign in, lets us reset your password, and — only if you asked for it — lets us send the newsletter. The tags telling us where an address came from exist so we can send you the guide you actually asked for. That is the whole list.

Who else touches it

We use three outside services, and each one sees only what it needs:

  • Supabase stores accounts and site content. Your email and hashed password live here.
  • Resend sends account email — the verification code and password resets.
  • The newsletter runs on those two. If you subscribed, Supabase keeps your address and Resend sends you the emails.
  • ManyChat handles automated replies on Instagram. If you sent us an email address in a direct message, it passed through here.

The site is hosted on Netlify, which necessarily handles the traffic data described above. We do not sell your data, rent it, or hand it to advertisers.

Cookies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site stores a small amount of data in your browser to keep you signed in and to remember interface preferences. Clearing your browser data signs you out and removes it.

Affiliate links

Some links to tools are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you sign up. Those links carry no personal information about you. Our affiliate disclosure covers this in full.

Deleting your account and your data

There is a delete button in your account settings. It removes your login and your newsletter subscription together, permanently, and we do not keep a shadow copy. If you only want off the newsletter, every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and there is a switch in your account settings.

If you never had an account and want an address removed anyway, email support@technologybrief.io and we will remove it.

Children

The site is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and anyone on the newsletter is told. Questions: support@technologybrief.io.
